March for Israel & Thanksgiving
Dear Bet Shalom,
Just two days ago, I had the incredible privilege of joining almost 300,000 supporters of Israel in our nation's capitol. Our Minneapolis Jewish Federation chartered a plane and I, along with about a dozen other Bet Shalomians, went to Washington DC to join an incredible show of support and love for Israel. It was peaceful. It was meaningful. It was, in so many ways, transformative. To stand shoulder to shoulder with 300,000 people is hard to describe. Like those that came through the desert with Moses, we were swept up in the incredible multitude of support and dedication for our Promised Land.
Each rabbi and cantor who travelled with us had the opportunity to teach a text or offer a blessing. Since I was slotted to offer the traveler's prayer just before take off at 6am...I also decided to take a selfie with the plane. The smiles in this photo express the joy we all felt on this pilgrimage to Washington. Join me tomorrow night (Friday, November 17 at 6pm) at Shabbat services as I reflect on this experience.
And then on Sunday join us, and Bet Shalom's interfaith partners, as we offer prayers of Thanksgiving. This annual service is another opportunity to join in supportive community as we come together with our neighbors to share our gratitude for all that we hold dear. This year, our service is being hosted by St. David's Episcopal Church. The service will begin at 7pm on Sunday night, 11/19 at 13000 St Davids Rd, Minnetonka, MN 55305.
Even in difficult times, we must remember to stop and give thanks. I, along with Cantor Havilio, look forward to seeing you over the next few days as we gather as a congregation in sacred community. I am ever grateful for each and every one of you.
All my best,
Rabbi David Locketz
