We are excited to share Bet Shalom’s plans for the coming High Holiday season.  It has been a challenging year, for both the Jewish community and the world, since the holidays ended in October.  We are so grateful for the supportive and sacred community we have been for each other through the tragedy in Israel and the rise of antisemitism and division here at home.  May the coming holidays find our world in a more peaceful state, and if not, may we find peace, support, sanctuary and shared purpose with each other at Bet Shalom during this season of renewal.

Please read our schedule of services and programs carefully as we have made some significant changes.  Over the past year, we received input from across Bet Shalom, including the Ritual Forum, the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee, and many numerous congregant interviews.  Based on this, and considering the attendance trends over the past few years, we have developed a High Holiday schedule that we know will build Sacred Community and maximize opportunities for Bet Shalomians to engage in rich Jewish life at our synagogue.

New information to note for this year:

On the mornings of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, the early service will be the “Family Service” and the midmorning service will be the “Congregational Service.”  Descriptions of each are in the schedule.  NOTE: Family service was created for small children and their families and the congregational service was created for adults

We look forward to including many members of our community in honors during the holiday services.  If you would like to be included in an honor, or would like to nominate someone else for an honor, please email Rabbi Locketz directly.

For many in our community, being able to participate by streaming our services from home has been a blessing.  We will continue to provide streaming access for all of our services.  At the same time, we encourage you to join us in person in our sanctuary.  This year we ask that everyone coming in person to Bet Shalom for any part of the holidays to register (free for all) and we will distribute lanyards with names displayed, ahead of the holidays, to help us manage entrance to the lobby.

אִם אֵין קֶמַח, אֵין תּוֹרָה - Im ein kemach, ein Torah - without sustenance, there can be no Torah.  We rely on the generosity of our community to sustain Bet Shalom so that we can continue to bring Torah into the world and achieve our ongoing mission as a synagogue community.  This year, a family has anonymously pledged up to $100,000 as a match for all funds raised through our High Holiday Appeal.  In the coming weeks, our Board of Trustees will communicate about how you can join in this incredible opportunity to help sustain Bet Shalom.

On behalf of Rabbi Locketz, Cantor Havilio, Rabbi Thal, our Bet Shalom staff and our Board of Trustees, we look forward to welcoming 5785 together in supportive and meaningful community.  May it be a year in which we all find shalom and shalem - peace and wholeness.
