Affordable Housing Advocacy

This week members of the Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative are lobbying state senators and representatives to champion affordable housing. Bring It Home, Minnesota legislation will provide rental subsidies so that no one would have to pay more than 30% of their take home income for rent. Beacon also supports housing bonds to build more homes.

Members of Bet Shalom's Affordable Housing subcommittee are joining lobbying sessions in their own districts and in Bet Shalom's district. Recently, Bet Shalom, St. Barnabas, Oak Knoll, and Mt. Olivet congregations met with Senator Ann Stewart Johnson who is Bet Shalom's senator. Rabbi Crimmings gave the opening prayer. Senator Stewart Johnson responded with an enthusiastic "yes!" to supporting both Bring It Home, MN - the rental subsidy legislation - and bonding for building homes.
