Well-balanced, elegant with good complexity and a lingering finish. Food Pairings: As an aperitif with light hors d’oeuvres, vegetables, raw fish, salads, light soups, simple veal, pork and chicken dishes and creamy cheese.
2. Massolino Dolcetto D'Alba 2019 @ $23.99: Wine and Spirits: This dolcetto offers flavors of juicy plum and raspberry that are pleasantly tart, brightened by a hint of orange peel. Fine, ferrous tannins frame the flavors, setting the wine up for dinner.
3. Tenuta L'Illuminata Colbertina Barbera D'Alba 2018 @ $24.99: Winemaker Notes: Intense ruby-red color with violet glints. Ample and complex bouquet with floral tones reminiscent of rose, and pleasant hints of chocolate and vanilla. The flavor is rich and harmonious with a delightful and long lasting aftertaste.
4. Michele Chiarlo Barolo Tortoniano 2012 (Nebbiolo) @ $57.99 / Buy One Get One Free: Winemaker Notes: The wine shows layered aromas of mint, fennel, plum and spices before rich red currant flavors, with rose petal and more mint notes. On the palate the acidity is balanced and the tannins are silky, leading to a long finish. This wine is a superlative pairing for beef roasts, lamb, game and hard cheeses.
Wine Enthusiast: Aromas suggesting ripe berry, exotic spice, Alpine herb and a whiff of blue flower come together in the glass. The dense, round palate offers black raspberry, fleshy cherry, licorice and espresso alongside velvety tannins. It's already surprisingly accessible. Drink through 2022.
5. Produttori Di Barbaresco Barbaresco 2017 (Nebbiolo) @ $44.99: Winemaker Notes: Scent of spices, pepper and black cherries with ripe red fruit and spicy flavors with a balanced tannic finish. Pair with pasta, meat dishes, particularly lamb and feathered game, mild cheeses.
Jeb Dunnuck: Layers of aromatics woven together with tar, forested earth, dried cherry, and sweet tobacco. The palate is ripe and pure, with raspberry leather, tea leaf, and blood orange. It is mouth-filling, with fruit that is long and persistent, fine tannins, and a lifted finish. Finessed and elegant, the 2017 is drinking beautifully now and will continue to drink well over the next 15 years. 2021-2036.
