BASICS: What are your names and any nicknames?

Laura Riemma & Jim Riemma

YOU: Tell us about you and your family.

Laura is from Minnetonka and grew up in a conservative Jewish household.  Jim is from the western suburbs of Chicago, IL and was raised Catholic.  We have two children, a second grader, Ayla (7) and kindergartner, Giuliana (5), and a 15 year old dog Petrie.

BELONG: What does belonging to a synagogue mean to you?

We believe the Jewish identity is something to be celebrated.  Belonging to a synagogue is important to us because it is a place where our children can grow up knowing other Jewish kids and form friendships rooted in shared traditions, holidays and experiences (such as camp).  Especially in light of recent current events, having a strong Jewish community feels more important than ever. 

HERE: Why did you choose Bet Shalom?

We chose Bet Shalom because we had heard wonderful things from current members.  Jim is not Jewish, and Bet Shalom is a welcoming place for our entire family.
