Kahol כחול (Younger Toddler)

Shalom Kahol Families and hello to another fun week at school! This week we focused on recycling and finding new and interesting ways to use scrap, unused, and left over materials!

The weather this week has been great but very warm! Water play was an amazing way to stay cool outside. The Kahol teachers set up the sprinkler and water table which many of the kids were excited about.

Both outside and in we have been providing plenty of water to keep the kids hydrated! When outside, especially during water play, it is a wonderful time to practice using an open cup as the fear of spilling and making a mess is limited. There is little to worry about our current students as many of them are mastering the open cup!

If you take a peek at our art wall in the hallway you will see that we replaced our Smokey the Bears and fire pits and replaced them with a colorful art project. The effect of the project is very fun but takes some time to achieve! Using scrap pieces of tissue paper from past projects, the littles "painted" over them with water on pieces of card stock. Then it was left to dry overnight and the next day we peeled back the tissue paper and were left with a slight geometric design! The kids in Kahol love to paint and get messy and a water based project like this is easily done with minimal clean up. Also they can "paint" for much longer without needing to replace their materials. Later in the week we did more water painting on construction paper which we hope to do more of moving forward and to later use that paper in various projects!

Another art project we did as a class was done by mostly finger painting a large poster board from a project that never really got utilized. The feeling of squishing the paint between their fingers and pushing the paint around on the board was a great sensory experience. At a later date we hope to use scrap paper to layer on top to make a sign to remind us to love our earth!

The food containers that you have brought in have been used well by our class! Some were used as dramatic play items in our grocery store/market area, the kiddos were very excited to see a couple of huge boxes of Cheerios! Other items have been made in different music shakers! Filled with different materials to showcase a variety of different sounds!

This week's book highlight was The World We Choose by Kevin Kunkel.

Next week we are changing up things a bit and focusing less on our outdoor/being green themes and focusing on colors and the rainbow! Each day we will focus on a different pair of colors and a subject that corresponds with those colors! A reminder that the 28th of June is school wide Rainbow Day, so dress as colorful as you can. Also June 30th is a special rainbow day for Kahol, each child that attends that day has been assigned a color to represent in the class!

Monday - Red/Purple - Fire trucks/Grapes

Tuesday - Blue/Green - Blueberries/Frogs

Wednesday - Yellow/Orange - Bananas/Giraffes

Thursday/Friday - Rainbows!

Have a great weekend!
