Yarok ירוק (Pre-K)

Hello Pre-K families,

Our first full week of school was full of friends, good weather, and fun! This week we learned about gardens, and the plants and the insects that they contain. We also learned (or reviewed) how to use paints in the classroom. We used paints to draw pictures of gardens we would like to see grow, and illustrated an easy reader book about gardens. We also started our classroom garden, with plant people (chia pets) and bean plants. We will watch our plant people's grass hair grow, and maybe even give them a hair cut or style when they do! :) We are growing bean seeds to observe changes and see roots growing in action. At the end of the week, we loved taking a tour of the Bet Shalom garden with Farmer Jake and Farmer Hannah! We took time to smell the flowers, guessed what might be growing in plots, and got to try some fresh garden spinach and radishes! We then continued enjoying the good weather on a nature walk around the pond to look for new goslings and ducklings.

Our social emotional focus this week was on reviewing the visual tools we have in our classroom to help us solve problems. We talked about our fair ways to play poster, and our problem solving solutions tool. We are encouraging students to use these to help them solve a problem independently of teacher intervention, though at the same time we continue to guide and coach students through any bumps in the road.

We continue to adjust to our summer program by making sure we have all our summer gear for going outside. Please make sure to return on Monday with your child's towel, swimsuit, and swim shoes. We have LOVED water play, and can't wait to continue throughout the summer! We have also enjoyed our new outdoor dramatic play camper! Students love finding food (basketballs) and "cooking" them on the grill. :)

We have enjoyed seeing new friendships formed, old friendships rekindled, and our hearts are open to the new classroom we will share this summer.

With joy,

Ms. Veronica and Ms. Langley
