Yarok ירוק (Pre-K)

Hello Yarok Families!

This last week at school our theme was rocks and gemstones! We started off the week by learning about the three types of rocks; Sedimentary, Metamorphic, and Igneous; how they form and what they’re used for. We then made growing crystals with pipe cleaners, borax and water.

On Tuesday we went on a rock hunt around the school and found many great examples of rocks naturally found in Minnesota!

Continuing with the rocks we found, on Wednesday we sorted and categorized all of our rocks based on their color, size, transparency and type. All of our friends did an amazing job sorting out their rocks and were able to look more closely at them with magnifying glasses.

Thursday we focused on Yom Ha’atzmaut and talked about The Western Wall, why it is significant and that it’s made out of limestone, which is why it has lasted over so many years. We also made our own wall and wrote down our prayers and hopes and posted them onto our wall.

Friday we finished up the week with making gratitude rocks! We painted all kinds of positive imagery and words and Teacher Langley is going to hide them all around the Twin Cities to share with others and spread our gratitude! All of our friends were so excited to learn all about rocks and gemstones, even if they weren’t made entirely out of beautiful crystals like quartz.

Our discussion this week with Julian and Julia was all about how we can find fair ways to play with others, especially if we want to play something other than what others are playing. We thought of a lot of solutions, including taking turns or waiting for others to be done playing so that they can play with us.

Only a few more weeks until graduation, we can hardly believe it!

Also, we wanted to thank all of the Yarok families for the kind gifts and words of encouragement over the last week, we are both so grateful for all of you!
