NORTHEAST ITALIAN WINES: April 9, 2022 Bet Shalom Wine Tasting Club

Santa Margherita Prosecco di Valdobbiodene (NV) DOCG @ $19.99: 100% Glera. Winemaker Tasting Notes: This sparkling wine has fine, lively bubbles that dance within its bright straw-yellow color and greenish reflections. Its lovely aromas include ripe pineapples, peaches, and Rennet apples as well as delicate florals. Its finish is crisp and dry, yet sweet on the palate.

Jermann Pinot Grigio 2019 DOC Friuli @ $17.99: 100% Pinot Grigio. James Suckling Tasting Note: “A lovely, creamy white with pineapple and mango character, as well as crushed-stone undertones. It's medium-bodied, fruity and delicious.”

Tommasi Rafael Valpolicella Classico Superiore DOC 2019 @ $17.99: Corvina 60%, Rondinella 25% e Molinara 15%. Wine Access: “Presents a youthful bouquet of red cherry, raspberry, and Damson plum accented by hints of exotic spices, fresh herbs, smoke, and tapenade. Medium bodied, the palate is lifted by a backbone of fresh acidity. Perfectly ripe red- and black-fruit flavors work in tandem with hints of cedar, flint, anise, and spice box, all carried on satiny tannins.“

Tommasi Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore DOC 2017 @ $24.99:  Corvina 70%, Rondinella 25%, Corvinone 5%.  “Our finest selection of Valpolicella is given a second fermentation in contact with the grape pomace from the Amarone, thus enriching its aromas, body and complexity.” Winemaker Tasting Note: “A deep, bright ruby red in color, it is rich and intensely spicy on the nose, with notes of cherry jam, tobacco and black pepper. On the palate it is full-bodied yet elegant, with gentle, silky tannins and a very long finish.”

Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG 2016 @ $69.99: Corvina 50%, Corvinone 30%,  Rondinella 15%, Oseleta 5%.  Manual harvest and selection of the grapes, followed by drying for about 3 months in a well-ventilated loft. Winemaker Tasting Note: “Very intense ruby red color, the nose reveals intense and clean scents of very ripe cherry, black cherry, wild berries followed by fresh and slightly spicy tones. In the mouth it is dry and soft at the same time, enveloping and of great balance thanks to the excellent balance between acidity and tannins. The whole tasting is embellished with a very pleasant tannic texture, which fades towards a finish of excellent persistence, with light hints of red fruit.”
