Are you interested in wild birds? Quietly watching, listening, photographing, studying, or simply enjoying nature? The Bet Shalom Birding Social Group holds informal, socially-grounded birding walks and other related activities in wildlife refuges and parks in the Twin Cities area. Prior birding knowledge and experience are not required, and all ages (including kids who are interested in birds) are welcome.

To accommodate members’ different schedules, some activities are held on Sundays and others on weekdays. Most activities are scheduled 8:00 to 10:00 in the morning when birds generally are more active. Members provide their own transportation to the birding locations. To further promote social relationships, informal coffee meetings or picnics sometimes take place after the birding activities.

In addition to bird watching and listening, some members like to photograph the birds. Images from past birding events can be viewed and downloaded from Sam Stern’s site for free.

The Birding Social Group’s current co-chairs are Brian Shapiro and Rita Silver Sandstrom. Send an email to birding@betshalom.org if you would like to join the group or have questions.
