Yarok ירוק (Pre-K)

Hello Yarok families!

This week was all about apples! With Rosh Hashanah coming up, we focused on one of the main foods that we eat!

On Monday, we tried our very best to go out apple picking from the trees right on school grounds, unfortunately we were only able to pick off one apple from our trees, the rest had already fallen to the ground! Oh well, we were still able to use our five senses to describe what the apple looked like, smelled like and even what it tasted like!

Tuesday we used more apples but instead of eating them, we dipped them into paint and used them like stamps to create our own orchards. Our friends had a wonderful time using red, green and yellow paint to create their rows of apple trees.

On Wednesday, we cut up some more apples and tried an experiment by putting the slices of apple into different liquids and made a hypothesis about how each slice would react in the liquid. We discovered that pure water keeps the apple hydrated, the pop also kept it hydrated but turns it a dark brown color, the vinegar dried out the apple slice and the oil didn’t really do much except for just covering the apple.

Thursday we made caramel apples, but only ones we could pretend to eat. Instead of real caramel, we used colored puffy paint to spread on our caramel and added sprinkles on top, yummy!

Friday we made our own apple pie playdough. After mixing the spices in to make it smell nice, we were able to "bake" with our playdough and practice our designing skills to create the crusts and patterns on our pies.

Shana Tovah!
